A meeting was held with the Regional Representative of the UN OHCHR for Central Asia
On September 4, 2024, a meeting was held between Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Akhmet Gurbanov and the Regional Representative of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights for Central Asia (OHCHR) Matilda Bogner.
During the meeting, the parties exchanged views on further strengthening cooperation between Turkmenistan and the UN OHCHR. In this context, it was emphasized that in order to further improve democratic institutions and effectively implement human rights obligations, Turkmenistan is implementing a multifaceted partnership with relevant international organizations.
The activities of the Interdepartmental Commission for Ensuring the Fulfillment of Turkmenistan's International Obligations in the Field of Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law were discussed.
In addition, the tasks of implementing the "National Action Plan on Human Rights in Turkmenistan for 2021-2025", "National Action Plan on Gender Equality in Turkmenistan for 2021-2025", "National Action Plan for the Implementation of Children's Rights in Turkmenistan for 2023-2028" were discussed.
The meeting participants discussed the results of the dialogues within the framework of the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women, the Committee on the Rights of the Child, and also emphasized the intention to cooperate in implementing the recommendations presented as a result of the dialogues on a systemic basis.
The interlocutors expressed interest in expanding cooperation with the UN in the area of "Human Rights Education".
