Briefing in the Embassy of Turkmenistan dedicated to International Day of Neutrality

On December 11, 2017 the briefing dedicated to the International Day of Neutrality was held at the Embassy of Turkmenistan in the Republic of Korea. State and public organizations, business structures were invited to the briefing.

During the briefing it was noted that on February 2, 2017, during its 71st session, the UN General Assembly unanimously adopted resolution 71/275, by which December 12 was proclaimed the International Day of Neutrality. The initiative to establish the International Day of Neutrality was put forward by the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov during the International Conference “Neutrality Policy: International Cooperation for Peace, Security and Development”, which was held in Ashgabat on December 12, 2015.

This is a significant event in the history of international relations, which is an indicator of the widespread recognition of the important role of neutrality policy in maintaining peace and stability. The resolution of the General Assembly recognizes the role of the policy of neutrality in strengthening international peace and security in regions and at the global level.

On the occasion of the adoption of the above-mentioned Resolution of the UN General Assembly, the President of Turkmenistan stressed the universal importance of the permanent neutrality of Turkmenistan.

Turkmenistan attaches a great importance to neutrality policy. The Neutrality status of the country was enshrined in the Constitution and other legal acts.

During the briefing international initiatives of neutral Turkmenistan directed to strengthening global peace and development were underlined.

Today the Day of Neutrality is widely celebrated in Turkmenistan. On December 11, 2017 Ashgabat hosted the International Conference, “Policy of Neutrality and Preventive Diplomacy in International Relations: Experience of Turkmenistan and Its Significance”.
