Prospects for Turkmenistan's accession to the World Trade Organization discussed

On September 16, 2024, a meeting between Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Ahmed Gurbanov and a delegation of the World Trade Organization (WTO) headed by Director of the WTO Accession Department Maika Oshikawa was held in the building of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.
During the meeting, the parties discussed current issues of enhancing cooperation in the context of Turkmenistan's accession to the WTO.
The sides reviewed Turkmenistan's plans to implement tasks related to preparatory measures for joining the WTO. Thus, Turkmenistan is currently conducting active domestic work to prepare a Memorandum on the foreign trade regime. Along with this, the consistent work of the Interdepartmental Government Commission to study issues related to accession to the WTO was noted.
At the end of the meeting, the participants exchanged views on priority issues related to the prospects for cooperation between Turkmenistan and the WTO.
