THE CONFERENCE "TURKMENISTAN IS THE HEART OF THE GREAT SILK ROAD" WAS HELD IN OXFORD UNIVERSITY

On March 9, 2018, in conjunction with the Oxford Society of the Silk Road, a conference and an official reception was held in the premises of Lady Margaret Hall College of the University of Oxford, dedicated to the role of Turkmenistan in the history and restoration of the Great Silk Road, as well as to the importance of the transport sector in the country's foreign policy strategy.

The event was attended by teachers and students of such higher educational institutions in the UK as University College of London, Brunel University of London and University of Oxford.

Opening the conference, the president of the Oxford Silk Road Society, Marcello Fantoni noted the inalienable connection and deep meaning of the first international event of the society held in the building of University of Oxford and held jointly with the Embassy of Turkmenistan with the announcement in Turkmenistan of 2018 as "Turkmenistan is the heart of the Great Silk Road".

During the conference, Ambassador Y.Seryaev spoke about mass-public and international events, in particular the rally "Amul-Khazar 2018", held under the leadership of President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov on the occasion of the announcement of 2018 as "Turkmenistan is the heart of the Great Silk Road". Also speaking about the successful implementation of transport corridor projects in Turkmenistan, such as the construction of a new sea port and logistics center on the Caspian Sea, the international airport and new railways in Turkmenistan, which are a priority of the country's foreign strategy, especially noted their role in strengthening the economy of not only Turkmenistan, but also the countries of the region.

Then the professor of the Institute of Archeology of the University College of London, Dr. G. Djorayev, in his speech noted the development of international relations in this direction and fruitful cooperation between the scientists and historians of Turkmenistan and Great Britain in studying part of the Great Silk Road passing through Turkmenistan.

At the end of the event, the participants of the conference were given an opportunity to taste Turkmen national cuisine.
