Ambassador of Turkmenistan to the Republic of Korea met with the Mayor of Busan Mr. Park Heong-joon

On May 25, 2023, in the framework of the opening ceremony of the “World Climate Industry EXPO 2023”, a separate meeting between the Ambassador of Turkmenistan to the Republic of Korea H.E. Mr. Begench Durdyyev and the Mayor of Busan Mr. Park Heong-joon was held at the conference center of the exhibition complex BEXCO in Busan.

During the meeting, Ambassador Durdyyev informed the Mayor about the decision of the Government of Turkmenistan to support the candidacy of the Republic of Korea to host the “World Expo 2030” in Busan, emphisizing that the decision of the leadership of Turkmenistan was the vivid example of the successfully pursued foreign policy of the President of Turkmenistan His Excellency Mr. Serdar Berdimuhamedov, aimed at developing and strengthening of the bilateral relations and
all-round mutually beneficial cooperation with the Republic of Korea. It was noted about the readiness of the Turkmen Side to vote in support of Korea's candidacy during the 173rd meeting of the General Assembly of the International Exhibitions Bureau, which will be held in Paris in the end of 2023.

Ambassador Durdyyev also emphasized that the results of the first official visit of the National Leader of the Turkmen people, the Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan His Excellency Mr. Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to the Republic of Korea in November 2022, as well as the meetings with the President Republic of Korea H.E. Mr. Yoon Suk Yeol and with the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea H.E. Mr. Kim Jin Pyo which were organized in the framework of the visit, largely contributed to the considerable strengthening of bilateral relations and cooperation. Thus, Ambassador Durdyyev stressed that the successful visit of the esteemed Arkadag to the Republic of Korea served as an important stage in the development of relations and mutually beneficial cooperation between Turkmenistan and the Republic of Korea in various areas of bilateral interaction.

During the meeting, Ambassador Durdyyev pointed out a number of issues that were discussed during the meeting of the Mayor of Busan with the Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan H.E. Mr. Rashid Meredov, which took place in the framework of Minister's participation in the 15th Central Asia-Korea Cooperation Forum on October 25, 2022 in Busan.

In particular, Ambassador of Turkmenistan expressed the readiness of the Turkmen side to develop and strengthen bilateral cooperation with the city of Busan in the industrial, trade, economic and other sectors, as well as in the field of education, science and culture.

Furthermore, Ambassador Durdyyev addressed the issue of educating Turkmen specialists in the universities of Busan in various areas, including the IT technologies, port city management and other potential areas of bilateral cooperation. Ambassador kindly requested the Mayor to render support in providing the maximum number of scholarships to the citizens of Turkmenistan in various specialties at the universities, located in Busan.

During the meeting, Ambassador Durdyyev informed the Mayor of Busan about the implementation of the Arkadag city construction project, showing the Mayor a presentation of the project, including information materials related to the construction process of the Arkadag smart city, along with its internal infrastructure, which meets up-to-date social, scientific, technological, as well as the environmental requirements.

Then, the Mayor of Busan Mr. Park Heong-joon kindly requested the Ambassador to convey the words of gratitude from the Korean Side to the leadership of Turkmenistan for their decision to vote in support of the candidacy of the Republic of Korea to host the “World Expo 2030”in Busan. The Mayor emphasized that the noble gesture of the Government of Turkmenistan will serve as a basis for further development and strengthening of the bilateral relations between two countries.

Mr. Park Heong-joon expressed his readiness for the comprehensive development of cooperation between the city of Busan and the Turkmen side, including educating the Turkmen specialists in various fields, as well as the continuous exchanges of experience and specialists in all potential areas of the bilateral cooperation.

The Mayor of Busan stressed that he would do his best to promote the issue of educating more students from Turkmenistan at the universities of Busan, meanwhile expressing the readiness of the Korean specialists to participate in the implementation of various projects in Turkmenistan, including the infrastructure projects of the Arkadag smart city.
