On September 26, 2024, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov met with the head of the World Ethnosport Confederation Bilal Erdogan, who arrived in Turkmenistan to participate in the celebrations on the occasion of the 33rd anniversary of Turkmenistan's independence.

Expressing sincere gratitude for the time spent, the head of the Confederation congratulated President Serdar Berdimuhamedov on the country's Independence Day, conveying warm greetings from Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and wishes for prosperity and well-being to the Turkmen people.

In turn, the head of Turkmenistan addressed greetings and best wishes to the Turkish leader.

President Serdar Berdimuhamedov expressed confidence that the upcoming talks and meetings during the visit will give a new impetus to the intensification of bilateral cooperation in the field of sports.

As noted, Turkmenistan and Turkey have centuries-old friendly fraternal relations, which serves as a solid foundation for further strengthening the interstate partnership, which is currently developing fruitfully on the basis of equality, mutual respect, trust and mutual support.

President Serdar Berdimuhamedov noted that Turkmenistan has created broad opportunities for the development of the sports movement. A clear confirmation of this is the construction of modern sports and recreation complexes, multifunctional stadiums and other specialized facilities equipped with the necessary equipment in all regions of the country.

As is known, in 2017, the V Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games were successfully held in the Olympic Village of Ashgabat. It was emphasized that, at the initiative of Turkmenistan, show jumping and the Turkmen national wrestling "goresh" were included in their program for the first time in history. This became an important stage in the popularization and promotion of the Turkmen national wrestling "goresh" to the international level.

During the meeting, it was noted that the World Ethnosport Confederation is doing a lot of work to revive the folk games that have evolved over the centuries. The National Sports Games Center operating in Turkmenistan is also a member of this Confederation, which opens up great opportunities for further development of cooperation in sports.

The head of state confirmed Turkmenistan's readiness to make every effort to strengthen relations between the two friendly countries, including in the field of sports diplomacy.

In conclusion, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and the head of the World Ethnosport Confederation Bilal Erdogan exchanged mutual wishes for good health, well-being and prosperity.
