The strengthening of Turkmen–Korean cooperation in science and education was discussed at Sungkyunkwan University
On February 10, 2025, a meeting took place between the Ambassador of Turkmenistan H.E. Mr. Begench Durdyyev and the President of Sungkyunkwan University of the Republic of Korea H.E. Mr. Yoo Ji-Beom, with the objective of further strengthening bilateral cooperation in the fields of science and education.
During the meeting, discussions focused on expanding the academic collaboration between Sungkyunkwan University and higher education institutions in Turkmenistan. Key topics included increasing the quota for Turkmen students and providing scholarship opportunities. Special emphasis was placed on enhancing cooperation with the Oguz han Engineering and Technology University of Turkmenistan and the Turkmen State Institute of Economics and Management.
President Yoo Ji-Beom reaffirmed Sungkyunkwan University’s commitment to strengthening academic ties with Turkmenistan and expressed readiness to offer master’s programs within the university’s STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) scholarship program to Turkmen students who have graduated from higher education institutes with exceptional academic performance in applied sciences.
Furthermore, as an important part of bilateral engagement, Ambassador B. Durdyyev proposed the introduction of Turkmen language courses at Sungkyunkwan University. He emphasized that the inclusion of such courses at this prestigious Korean university would contribute to expanding students’ linguistic and cultural competencies, further enriching the academic environment.
Also, during the meeting, Ambassador B. Durdyyev introduced participants about the foreign policy initiatives put forward by our country, in particular, the declaration of 2025 as the "International Year of Peace and Trust" by the Resolution of the United Nations General Assembly and the international events planned to be held in Turkmenistan and abroad in honor of the 30th anniversary of our permanent Neutrality.
It is worth mentioning that on April 13, 2015, Sungkyunkwan University presented an academic degree of Honorary doctorate to the President of Turkmenistan.
