Lavrov: Russia Deeply Respects Turkmenistan’s Wise Choice in Favor of Permanent Neutrality
On June 25, at the Yyldyz Hotel in Ashgabat, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Mr. Sergey Lavrov, delivered an address to officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, as well as to faculty members and students of the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.
In his remarks, Minister Lavrov shared his perspective on current global political trends and discussed the constructive development of Turkmen-Russian relations across a broad range of areas.
He praised Turkmenistan’s activities on the international stage, carried out in line with its status as a permanently neutral state. Lavrov emphasized that Turkmenistan is the only country whose permanent neutrality has been officially recognized three times by unanimous resolutions of the United Nations General Assembly.
“The international initiatives put forward by Turkmenistan—such as Dialogue as a Guarantee of Peace, the Zone of Peace, Trust, and Cooperation in Central Asia, and the declaration of the current year as the International Year of Peace and Trust—continue to make a meaningful contribution to preserving peace and stability both in the region and beyond,” Minister Lavrov stated.
During his address, the Russian side also expressed appreciation to the leadership of Turkmenistan for its prompt assistance in facilitating the departure of Russian citizens from Iran, in light of recent developments in the Middle East.
The event concluded with a question-and-answer session.
