Cooperation between Turkmenistan and the International Organization for Migration was discussed.
On June 26, 2025, a meeting was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, Rashid Meredov, and the Regional Coordinator of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) for Central Asia, Serhan Aktoprak.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the current state and prospects of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the IOM.
It was noted that, in light of the ongoing situation in the Middle East, Turkmenistan—guided by the principles of humanitarianism and its permanent, positive neutrality—has taken an active role in the political and diplomatic resolution of the conflict and in addressing humanitarian issues. The actions of the Turkmen state in this context reflect its commitment to ensuring orderly, safe, and legal migration, in line with its obligations under the Global Compact for Migration. The parties agreed to strengthen coordination in emergency situations.
The meeting also reviewed the progress of activities being implemented in accordance with the Action Plan for the current year, particularly the implementation of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration (GCM).
