THE TWO-DAY SEMINAR "PROTECTION OF CITIZENS ABROAD DURING CRISIS" STARTED ITS WORK IN ASHGABAT

On July 18, 2018 a seminar aimed at raising awareness and strengthening the capacity of the consular services of the countries of Central Asia and Afghanistan in the field of planning and responding to emergencies started its work in Ashgabat in the premises of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan. The seminar was organized by the Office of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Turkmenistan in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

Representatives of the Ministries of Internal Affairs, Defense, and the State Migration Service of Turkmenistan took part in the seminar. The overall objective of the seminar was to strengthen regional capacity in meeting the needs of migrants in countries in crisis by establishing mechanisms for cooperation in the field of consular protection and mutual solidarity between the countries of Central Asia and Afghanistan.

During the seminar, which took place in the format of an open discussion, participants were given the opportunity to share experiences, present case studies and key concepts.

The program of the seminar will allow participants to discuss a wide range of issues to increase the awareness of relevant representatives of ministries and departments, strengthen the capacity of consular services, and facilitate coordination between relevant national and regional organizations.
