The President of Turkmenistan participated in the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly

On September 23, 2025, the week of general debate for the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly began at UN Headquarters in New York.

The session opened under the theme "Working Together: 80 Years of Working Together for Peace, Development, and Human Rights, and the Way Forward."

President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov participated in the High-Level Plenary Meeting of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly.

Upon arrival at UN Headquarters, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov was warmly greeted by UN Secretary-General António Guterres and other officials. A group photo ceremony followed.

The plenary session then began, and the floor was given to the participants.

In his address, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov congratulated the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly and wished it fruitful work.

The head of state congratulated Ms. Annalena Baerbock on her election as President of the General Assembly and thanked Ambassador Philemon Young for his effective leadership of the General Assembly during the previous session.

In his address, the President of Turkmenistan noted the importance of coordinated cooperation between states and international organizations in maintaining peace and security, sustainable development, and preserving the legal foundations of the modern world order.

It was emphasized that the key area of ​​Turkmenistan's cooperation with the UN is ensuring international peace and security.

The President of Turkmenistan called for the application of the principles of neutrality to promote cooperation, mutual understanding, and respectful dialogue as the primary and defining condition for ensuring stability and sustainable development in the global and regional arenas.

He emphasized Turkmenistan's preparations for the High-Level International Forum dedicated to the Year of Peace and Trust and called on the international community to actively participate in it.

Furthermore, the President briefed those gathered on Turkmenistan's initiatives for the 80th session of the UN General Assembly.

The President emphasized that Turkmenistan always aligns all its international initiatives with the Charter and founding documents of the UN, as well as its long-term goals.

It is important to note that, on behalf of the people of Turkmenistan, the head of state expressed gratitude to UN member states and the entire international community for the decision adopted in December 1995 to recognize Turkmenistan's permanent neutrality, which was confirmed by two subsequent General Assembly resolutions.

The President emphasized that Turkmenistan will continue to firmly adhere to its international obligations.

After completing his working visit to the United States, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov returned to his homeland.
