Foreign Ministers of Turkmenistan and the Federal Republic of Somalia discuss prospects for cooperation

On 13 December 2025, a meeting was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan between Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Federal Republic of Somalia Abdisalam Abdi Ali, who arrived in Turkmenistan on a visit to take part in the celebrations and the International Forum marking the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s permanent neutrality.

At the beginning of the meeting, Minister Abdisalam Abdi Ali conveyed congratulations to the Turkmen side on the occasion of International Neutrality Day and the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s permanent neutrality.

It was noted that there is significant potential for cooperation between the two countries in areas of mutual interest. In this context, it was emphasized that intergovernmental and interagency contacts contribute to strengthening bilateral relations in the political and diplomatic, trade and economic, as well as cultural and humanitarian spheres.

The sides spoke in favor of strengthening cooperation between the foreign ministries of the two countries and expressed the expediency of expanding the legal and contractual framework.

The interlocutors discussed cooperation between the two states within international organizations, primarily the United Nations. The similarity of the approaches of Turkmenistan and Somalia to issues of global peace and sustainable development was noted.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the sides expressed confidence that the current visit of Minister Abdisalam Abdi Ali would contribute to the further strengthening of relations between Turkmenistan and Somalia.
