PRESIDENT OF TURKMENISTAN ARRIVED IN NEW YORK FOR A WORKING VISIT

On September 29, 2018, the President of Turkmenistan departed from Ashgabat International Airport to New York. Having made a long flight, the presidential airliner landed at John F. Kennedy International Airport, where the President of Turkmenistan was met by officials.

From the air harbor, the Turkmen leader headed to the residence allotted to him during his visit, which was located in the upscale of “Mandarin Oriental” hotel, located in the heart of Manhattan. Here the head of state was greeted by members of the governmental delegation of Turkmenistan. From the allotted residence, the head of state proceeded to the United Nations Headquarters.

Upon arrival at the United Nations Headquarters, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov met with the Chairman of the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly, Maria Fernanda Espinosa Garcés.

During the meeting, a keen exchange of views took place on the prospects and key areas of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the United Nations, which is distinguished by growing dynamics, which is confirmed by effective contacts with the largest UN structures, with which successfully finalized and being implemented projects in various fields.

Then the Turkmen leader took part in the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly.

Speaking from the high rostrum of the United Nations, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov announced the priority positions of our country on crucial issues of regional and global topics, as well as constructive initiatives aimed at further expanding and deepening fruitful international cooperation that meets the interests of universal well-being and progress.

Also within the framework of participation in the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov had a meeting with the United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres.

During the conversation, a keen exchange of views took place on the current state and prospects of bilateral cooperation. As Antonio Guterres noted, the world community highly appreciates the contribution of Turkmenistan, which carries out purposeful work and takes concrete steps to practically implement joint projects and programs in the context of the goals and objectives of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

A key priority of state policy is to create conditions for the well-being of people, which is consistent with the global Sustainable Development Goals, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said. The President of Turkmenistan also expressed his gratitude to the Secretary-General for the continued personal attention to cooperation with our state, support for proposals and initiatives of Turkmenistan.
