THE MEETING OF CIS INTERGOVERNMENTAL COORDINATION COUNCIL ON SEED ISSUES OPENED IN ASHGABAT

On May 15, 2019, a meeting of the CIS Intergovernmental Coordination Council on seed issues opened in the conference hall of the Archabil Hotel in Ashgabat.

The opening session was addressed by the Minister of Agriculture and Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan M. Bayramdurdyev, Chairman of the Council, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food of the Republic of Belarus V.V. Grakun, member of the Council, Deputy Chairman of the Council, President of the “Semena” Association, Ph.D., Academician of MANIPT I.I. Kuzmin.

During the meeting, honored scientists and experts from the CIS member countries in their speeches gave exhaustive information on the state of selection, testing, seed production, nursery, interstate supply of seeds of agricultural crops and planting material of fruit crops and grapes in the CIS countries. The participants also highlighted the importance of creating an information and analytical system for managing seed production in the CIS.

Issues such as breeding, seed production and varietal testing of agricultural crops, botanical gardens in the service of the CIS agro-industrial complexes and their role and importance in preserving the study of the plant gene pool, creating new varieties and forms of garden crops using classical and molecular breeding techniques, biotechnology and bioengineering, medicinal and aromatic plants serving the health of the CIS population were discussed during the Council meeting.

At the end of the meeting of the CIS Intergovernmental Coordination Council on seed issues, its participants decided on the venue and date of the next XXIII Council meeting in 2020, and signed the Minutes of the Council meeting.
