MEETING OF THE INTERGOVERNMENTAL TURKMEN-KOREAN COMMISSION WAS HELD IN ASHGABAT

On April 6, 2017, the 6th meeting of the Intergovernmental Turkmen-Korean Commission for Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technological Cooperation was held in Ashgabat.

The meeting was attended by members of the Turkmen-Korean commission for trade, economic, scientific and technological cooperation of the two countries. The Turkmen side was headed by Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan M. Babayev. The Korean delegation was headed by the Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy of the Republic of Korea Joe Hyung Hwang.

The agenda of the 6th meeting of the Intergovernmental Turkmen-Korean Commission for Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technological Cooperation included the development of relations in the field of economy and trade, standardization and control of the financial system. The sides also discussed cooperation in the field of energy and hydrocarbon resources, construction, agriculture, health, transport and communications. Mutual interest in expanding ties was emphasized in the cultural and humanitarian sphere, primarily in the field of science and education, culture, tourism and sports.

Following the results of the 6th meeting of the Intergovernmental Turkmen-Korean Commission, the final minutes of the meeting were signed.

The seventh meeting of the intergovernmental Turkmen-Korean commission for trade, economic, scientific and technological cooperation will be held in 2018 in the capital of the Republic of Korea Seoul.

As part of the visit of the Korean delegation to Turkmenistan, a Turkmen-Korean business forum was also held aimed at acquaintance with the resource and export opportunities of the Turkmen economy sectors and the investment potential of Turkmenistan, as well as with the proposals of leading Korean companies. Here, special attention was paid to cooperation in the field of high-tech industries based on the use of local raw materials.

The forum was attended by the representatives of relevant ministries and departments, industrialists and entrepreneurs of both countries, heads of such companies as Hyundai Engineering Co., LTD, LG International Corp., Samsung C & T Corporation, POSCO Engineering & Construction Co. Ltd, and POSCO Daewoo Cooperation.
