PARTICIPATION OF THE DELEGATION OF TURKMENISTAN IN THE WORK OF THE REGIONAL REVIEW MEETING “BEIJING + 25” IN GENEVA

On October 29, 2019, a two-day Regional Review Meeting “Beijing + 25” started in Geneva which acts as a forum for reviewing the progress and identifying the problems in the implementation of the Beijing Platform for Action in attaining the gender equality. 

The Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action of 1995 serve as a wide range “road map” aimed at the expanding of rights and opportunities of women and girls in the whole world.  In 2020, the 25th anniversary will be reached since the Beijing Platform for Action has determined the strategic goals and actions on attaining the gender equality in 12 significant areas.         

The delegation of Turkmenistan headed by the Chair of the National Center of Trade Unions of Turkmenistan G.Atayeva is participating to the session organized in the Palace of Nations in Geneva by the UN European Economic Commission jointly with the Regional UN Office for women in Europe and Central Asia.

Regional review and appraisal of the implementation process of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action is carried out in the context of preparing to the Global Review “Beijing +25” to take place in 2020.  

The National Report of Turkmenistan on the comprehensive review of implementing the provisions of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action of 1995 (for the period 2014-2019) embraces the main achievements for the past five years, leading priorities in the process of accelerating the progress in regard to women and girls, including the efforts and results on providing the rights to work and the rights at the working place.    

The outcomes and further actions of successful implementation of the National Action Plan on gender equality in Turkmenistan for 2015-2020 hold a special place in the Report of Turkmenistan.
