GLOBAL ONLINE SESSION FOR PARLIAMENTARIANS ON THE RESPONSE TO COVID-19 AND SDGS HELD

On June 9, 2020, a global online session for parliamentarians on the response to COVID-19 and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) was held in an online format.

The event was organized by the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) and Parliamentarians for the achievement of global goals. The global online session was attended by parliamentarians of the states from all regions of the world, international experts in the field of public health, economics and other spheres. The Turkmen side was represented by parliamentarians of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan.

During the session, the attention of the participants was focused on best practices for combating the epidemic and restoring the global economy in a sustainable and comprehensive manner, guided by the UN sustainable development goals and the Paris Agreement of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change. Experts exchanged views on the pre-pandemic economic recovery in terms of sustainability.

The Turkmen side presented information on measures taken by the Government of Turkmenistan in the field of protecting public health and combating the coronavirus pandemic COVID-19, set out in a letter from the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to the Director General of the World Health Organization Tedros Gebreyesus.
