MEETING AT THE MFA OF TURKMENISTAN WITH THE EU SPECIAL REPRESENTATIVE FOR CENTRAL ASIA

On May 23, 2018, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan received the EU Special Representative for Central Asia Peter Burian who arrived in Ashgabat on a working visit.

At the meeting, the parties discussed a wide range of issues of mutual interest, including the further development of relations between Turkmenistan and the European Union. During the talks, the sides also discussed the implementation of the EU Strategy for Central Asia.

The sides stressed the importance of holding regular political consultations, business meetings and negotiations that contribute to the formation of a reliable platform for further intensifying Turkmenistan's multi-faceted relations with its European partners.

The sides expressed support for a peaceful settlement of the situation in Afghanistan, noted the importance of further cooperation in the format of the EU-Central Asia Security Dialogue with the participation of Afghanistan. They also expressed interest in cooperation within BOMCA (Border Management Assistance Program in Central Asia) and CADAP (Action Program to Combat Drug Trafficking in Central Asia) programs.
