Ambassador of Turkmenistan held a meeting with Ban Ki Moon
On February 17, 2025, the Ambassador of Turkmenistan to the Republic of Korea, H.E. Mr. B.Durdyyev, met with the President of the Assembly and Chairman of the Council of the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), 8th Secretary-General of the United Nations Organization H.E. Mr. Ban Ki Moon to discuss prospects for bilateral cooperation.
During the meeting, Mr. Ban Ki-moon extended his congratulations to the Turkmen side on the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s Permanent Neutrality and the proclamation of
2025 by the UN General Assembly as the "International Year of Peace and Trust". He commended Turkmenistan’s steadfast commitment to neutrality policy over the past three decades, its active support for regional peace and development, and its dedication to a humanitarian foreign policy, describing them as exemplary.
Reflecting on his longstanding engagement with Turkmenistan, Mr. Ban Ki-moon warmly recalled his visits to Ashgabat in 2010, 2015, and 2016 during his tenure as UN Secretary-General, as well as his meetings with the Head of State. In this context, he asked to convey his best regards to the Leadership of Turkmenistan, praising their strong contribution to maintaining global peace and stability.
Ambassador B.Durdyyev provided an overview of the key events planned both domestically and internationally in celebration of the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s Neutrality and the International Year of Peace and Trust in 2025. In particular, he highlighted the International Forum scheduled for December 11-12 of this year, as well as Turkmenistan’s planned activities under the Concept of activities and priorities for the year.
Mr. Ban Ki-moon expressed his appreciation for the information provided and affirmed his readiness to support and contribute to Turkmenistan’s initiatives and events in 2025 as needed.
Also during the meeting, the parties exchanged views on enhancing collaboration through the sharing of expertise in green development, the adoption of innovative technologies, and joint efforts to strengthen mechanisms for the sustainable management of forest areas. Furthermore, discussions centered on expanding cooperation with GGGI in the implementation of new projects within these priority areas.
