FIRST GLOBAL CONFERENCE ON SUSTAINABLE TRANSPORT SYSTEM COMPLETED ITS WORK IN ASHGABAT

On November 27, 2016 the first Global Conference on the Sustainable Transport System completed its work in Ashgabat. The Forum which agenda includes a wide range of issues related to cooperation in such strategic sector as transport is held under the auspices of the United Nations.

 President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon took part in the opening ceremony and plenary session of the conference.  Among the heads of delegations participating in the conference - President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, the President of Georgia, Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, the second President of the National Council of the Republic of Austria, Chairman of the Board of the National Assembly of Belarus.

The forum in Ashgabat was attended by members of Governments, heads of relevant ministries of many countries, heads and representatives of the UN, its commissions and specialized agencies, as well as the OSCE, ECO, SCO, CIS, European Commission and other international organizations, whose profile related to all areas of the transport sector.

Opening the Global Conference on Sustainable Transport System in Ashgabat, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov emphasized that the world is growing more and more awareness of the need to consolidate efforts to address global issues in the transport sector. The Turkmen leader expressed confidence that during the Conference there will be developed modern mechanisms that meet real needs and objectives of the partnership, outlined plans for the future and new opportunities identified.
