Climate change and Forestation are in the focus meetings in Seoul

On October 16-17, 2024, Deputy Minister of Environment Protection of Turkmenistan, N. Jumashov, held meetings with representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea and the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), in the framework of his participation at the events of the Global Green Growth Week organized by GGGI.

On the afternoon of October 16, Deputy Minister Jumashov met with Mr. Keeyong Chung, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea for Climate Change. During this meeting, parties discussed measures to mitigate the negative impacts of climate change in their respective countries. They also reviewed preparations for the 29th Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), which will be held in Baku from November 11 to 22, 2024. Additionally, they exchanged views on Turkmenistan’s initiative to establish a regional center for climate-related technologies in Central Asia, based in Ashgabat.

On October 17, the Turkmen delegation held a bilateral meeting with Frank Rijsberman, Director-General of the Global Green Growth Institute. During the discussions, sides shared perspectives on enhancing cooperation by exchanging experiences and introducing new methods and technologies for green development. They also discussed assessing the environmental impact of forest zones created in Turkmenistan and working collaboratively to improve sustainable forest management practices.

Furthermore, considering the natural ecosystems and soil-climate conditions of Turkmenistan, the Global Green Growth Institute and the Turkmen side agreed to intensify cooperation on current projects aimed at increasing the variety and size of garden plants to be cultivated in forest farms and state nature reserves.
