On October 1, 2026, a consultative meeting dedicated to reviewing international standards and norms for methane emission reduction was held at the Natural Gas Research Institute in Ashgabat.

The meeting was organized with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan under the project "European Union for Green Development of Turkmenistan: Policy Dialogue and Climate Action (2024–2029)," which is co-financed by the European Union and the German Federal Foreign Office and implemented by GIZ.

The meeting aimed to further develop recommendations for improving the country's regulatory framework, taking into account national development priorities in this area. Participants included legal and technical specialists from the Mejlis of Turkmenistan, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Energy, the Ministry of Environmental Protection, and the State Concerns "Turkmengas" and "Turkmennebit."

Discussions at the meeting focused on applying an analytical approach to reviewing Turkmenistan's regulatory framework for its further development in line with recognized modern international practices (including the EU Regulation on methane emissions reduction in the energy sector).

The meeting established a clear methodological foundation for adapting global best practices to Turkmenistan's national context.
