Delegation of Turkmenistan takes part in the 52nd session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers
On 17-18 October 2026, the 52nd session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation was held in Baghdad, with a delegation of Turkmenistan taking part in its work.
During the session, the participants considered current issues of the international and regional agenda, the strengthening of peace and security, and the expansion of political, trade and economic, and humanitarian cooperation between the member states of the Organization.
An important outcome of the session was the adoption, on the initiative of Turkmenistan, of the resolution “On the Role of the Policy of Neutrality in Maintaining and Strengthening International Peace, Security and Sustainable Development in the OIC Space and Around the World.”
This resolution once again received the support of the member states of the Organization, which confirms the international recognition of the importance of the policy of neutrality as an effective instrument for strengthening peace, security and sustainable development.
During the session, the delegation of Turkmenistan delivered a statement setting out the priority areas of the country’s cooperation with the OIC. Special attention was paid to Turkmenistan’s foreign policy initiatives aimed at strengthening international trust, developing dialogue and preventive diplomacy, and ensuring the rule of international law.
In this context, the significance of the proclamation of 2028 as the Year of International Law, initiated by Turkmenistan and supported by the UN General Assembly, was stressed.
Separately, the issues of expanding cooperation in education, science and culture were raised. In particular, it was noted that in 2026 Turkmenistan received observer status in the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), which opens new opportunities for developing interaction in these areas.
The Turkmen side also expressed interest in further strengthening partnership with the member states of the OIC in the trade and economic, energy, transport and communications, and humanitarian spheres.
Turkmenistan’s participation in the 52nd session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers and the adoption of the resolution proposed by the Turkmen side became another proof of the consistent implementation of the country’s foreign policy course aimed at strengthening peace, trust and multilateral cooperation.
