Turkmen-Chinese political consultations held in Ashgabat
On January 15, 2025, political consultations between the foreign ministries of Turkmenistan and the People's Republic of China were held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.
The Turkmen side was headed by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Akhmet Gurbanov, the Chinese side was represented by Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China Liu Bin.
During the consultations, an interested exchange of views took place on all key areas of the bilateral agenda, including issues of political and diplomatic dialogue, trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian partnership and filling them with practical content. In this regard, it was emphasized that regular contacts at the highest, governmental and interdepartmental levels give impetus to comprehensive strategic relations.
During the negotiations, the topic of the Chinese side's participation in planned high-level events within the framework of the International Year of Peace and Trust was touched upon.
Speaking about bilateral inter-parliamentary and inter-party relations, the parties emphasized the importance of the activities of inter-parliamentary friendship groups and participation in joint events.
In the context of interaction between the foreign ministries, the diplomats considered the issues of practical implementation of the Memorandum of Cooperation between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China for 2025-2026, signed in November last year in Chengdu.
The interlocutors agreed that the activities of the Turkmen-Chinese Intergovernmental Committee on Cooperation are an important mechanism for the Turkmen-Chinese dialogue, which is sustainable and long-term.
Special attention at the meeting was paid to the expansion of trade and economic ties. As emphasized, for many years China has been the largest foreign economic partner of Turkmenistan.
According to the mutual opinion of the parties, the spheres of science, education, culture, art and sports have become an effective tool for bringing together the friendly Turkmen and Chinese peoples.
At the end of the inter-MFA consultations, the parties expressed their readiness to intensify fruitful dialogue in promising areas of bilateral cooperation of mutual interest.

On the same day, the 10th meeting of the Subcommittee on Security Cooperation of the Turkmen-Chinese Intergovernmental Cooperation Committee was held.
The meeting was chaired by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan A. Gurbanov and Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China Liu Bin.
Representatives of relevant ministries and departments of Turkmenistan and China also took part in the meeting.
The parties analyzed the results of work on the implementation of previously reached agreements, and also exchanged views on joint activities in the near future in priority areas of cooperation.
The participants confirmed their intention to expand and deepen cooperation in the field of security.
Following the meeting, the Protocol of the 10th meeting of the Subcommittee on Security Cooperation of the Turkmen-Chinese Intergovernmental Cooperation Committee was signed.
