ASHGABAT HOSTED A HIGH-LEVEL MEETING OF THE GROUP OF FRIENDS OF NEUTRALITY

On December 10, 2022, the first high-level ministerial meeting of the Group of Friends of Neutrality for Peace, Security and Sustainable Development was held in a hybrid format in Ashgabat.

The group was officially created at the initiative of Turkmenistan in September 2020 and by now more than 20 countries have joined it. The creation of the Group of Friends of Neutrality at the UN is one of the main measures to expand the use of the institution of neutrality to improve the international political climate, to establish and build up a broad multilateral dialogue on the practical application of the principles of neutralism in preventing conflicts, eliminating their causes and consequences.

Turkmenistan believes that regular meetings of the Group of Friends of Neutrality will lead to the development of a sustainable political and diplomatic mechanism to promote the principles of neutrality in international relations and strengthen multilateral cooperation based on the ideals of peace, mutual respect and understanding.

At the last meeting of the High-Level Group, institutional steps were considered to determine the format and methods of work of this multilateral dialogue as a tool for strengthening global peace and security.

All proposals on the format and working methods of the Group were summarized in the final Declaration of the meeting.
