MEETING WITH THE MINISTER FOR ENVIRONMENT AND ENERGY OF THE REPUBLIC OF MALDIVES

On May 22, 2018, a meeting of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan with the Minister of Environment and Energy of the Republic of Maldives Torik Ibrahim was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

As was noted by the Turkmen side, one of the important priorities of Turkmenistan's foreign policy is the activation of a full-scale partnership with the countries of the Asia-Pacific region. In this regard, the Turkmen side expressed its interest in strengthening and expanding bilateral political relations with the Republic of Maldives. The parties underlined that cooperation in international organizations is another promising area of interaction and partnership. It was stressed that the Republic of Maldives is a co-author of the resolution of the UN General Assembly on "World Bicycle Day", initiated by Turkmenistan and adopted on April 12, 2018, during the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly.

Speaking about the trade and economic component of the relations, the sides noted the need to intensify cooperation in this direction. Also, issues of cooperation in the field of energy, tourism, the environment and in the cultural and humanitarian sphere have been discussed.
