Meeting with the Head of the ICRC Regional Representation in Central Asia
On December 13, 2024, the Foreign Ministry of Turkmenistan hosted a meeting between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov and the head of the Regional Representation of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Central Asia Biljana Milosevic, who arrived in Ashgabat to participate in the festive events dedicated to the International Day of Neutrality.
During the meeting, a brief overview of the current activities of the ICRC in the region, and in Turkmenistan in particular, was given.
The issues of promoting and implementing international humanitarian law in national legislation, as well as cooperation with the National Red Crescent Society of Turkmenistan were discussed.
The interlocutors emphasized the importance of activities aimed at strengthening and enhancing the capacity of the ICRC's national partners in the field of international humanitarian law.
In addition, the parties reviewed plans for cooperation between the Government of Turkmenistan and the ICRC for 2025. In particular, the possibility of conducting courses and lectures by the ICRC on international humanitarian law for relevant universities in Turkmenistan was discussed.
