Issues of development of Turkmen-Uzbek relations were discussed

On January 26-27, 2025, the Turkmen delegation headed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov visited the Republic of Uzbekistan. During the visit, political consultations were held at the level of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and the Republic of Uzbekistan.

During the consultations, the development of political and diplomatic dialogue between the two countries was discussed, and the importance of regular contacts at the highest level was noted.

The important role of parliamentary diplomacy in the progressive development of Turkmen-Uzbek relations was emphasized.

Close cooperation within regional and international structures, in particular the UN, was noted. The parties emphasized the importance of holding inter-MFA consultations in early 2025, declared the International Year of Peace and Trust by a special resolution of the UN General Assembly at the initiative of Turkmenistan.

Particular emphasis was placed on strengthening cooperation in the trade and economic sphere, where there is significant potential for joint work. In this regard, the importance of the joint Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technical, Cultural Cooperation and other cooperation mechanisms was noted.

The issues of deepening cooperation in the transport and logistics, energy, water and industrial sectors were also considered.

In addition, the parties discussed important aspects of cultural and humanitarian relations. In this context, the role of mutual Culture Days in strengthening cultural ties between the two fraternal countries was noted. The effectiveness of contacts in science, education and cinematography was emphasized.

At the end of the consultations, the signing ceremony of the Cooperation Program between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan for 2025-2026 and the Protocol between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan on inventory and improvement of the legal framework of Turkmen-Uzbek relations was held by the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan R. Meredov and Uzbekistan B. Saidov. ***

As part of the program of the visit of the Turkmen delegation, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov.

At the beginning of the conversation, the head of the foreign policy department conveyed to the President of Uzbekistan words of greetings from the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov and the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.

The parties emphasized that relations between Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan have reached a qualitatively new level, having acquired the character of a strategic partnership. High-level contacts play a decisive role in enhancing interaction between the two countries.

During the conversation, special attention was paid to the further development of Turkmen-Uzbek bilateral cooperation in priority areas of political, diplomatic, trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian nature.

An exchange of views also took place on topical issues of the regional and international agenda, including in the context of upcoming high-level events in bilateral and multilateral formats.

In addition, within the framework of the visit of the delegation of Turkmenistan to the Republic of Uzbekistan, a meeting was held between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan R. Meredov and the Deputy Secretary of the Security Council under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Special Representative of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Foreign Policy, Honorary Elder of Turkmenistan A. Kamilov, during which key areas of partnership between the two countries were discussed.
