TURKMEN-BELGIAN POLITICAL CONSULTATIONS HELD IN BRUSSELS

Within the framework of the visit of the Turkmen delegation headed by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan in Brussels, on 20 June 2018, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Belgium hosted a meeting in the format of inter-MFA political consultations at the level of deputy foreign ministers. The Belgian side was headed by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs
Mr. Axel Kenes.

During the talks, the parties discussed the current state and prospects for further strengthening the bilateral partnership, including expanding cooperation within the framework of international organizations. One of the topics discussed was the discussion of the planned visit at the highest level.

The need was stressed to intensify activities to expand trade and economic cooperation by creating new mechanisms for cooperation. The sides discussed issues of regional cooperation, including energy, humanitarian issues and security.

In addition, an exchange of views was held on the possibilities of bringing cooperation to a qualitatively new level by organizing, on a systemic basis, consultations on the line of foreign policy agencies.

Noting the commonality of the vision of new approaches to solving global problems through diplomatic negotiations, the Turkmen side noted the importance of the neutrality policy of Turkmenistan, which plays an important role in ensuring peace and stability in the region. In this context, the sides made proposals to unite peacekeeping initiatives to combat such international challenges as terrorism, extremism and drug trafficking.
