Meeting of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan with the Secretary General of the Economic Cooperation Organization
On April 28, 2025, on the sidelines of the First High-Level Forum on Sustainable Development of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) held in the city of Arkadag, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, Rashid Meredov, met with the Secretary General of the ECO, Asad Majid Khan.
During the meeting, the parties reviewed key areas of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the ECO and outlined prospects for further strengthening their partnership. They highlighted the importance of the initiatives put forward by the President of Turkmenistan aimed at enhancing the role of the ECO on the international stage. The significance of cooperation among countries spanning Central Asia, the Middle East, and South Asia was particularly emphasized.
Energy, transport and communications, trade and economic integration, digitalization, and the development of cultural ties were identified as priority areas for collaboration. Special attention was given to unlocking the region’s transport and transit potential, with a focus on Turkmenistan’s proposal to organize an event dedicated to the Great Silk Road.
The parties also reaffirmed the importance of the Ashgabat Consensus for Action, adopted at the 15th ECO Summit in November 2021, as a foundation for expanding future cooperation.
Concluding the meeting, both sides confirmed their commitment to constructive dialogue and expressed confidence in the continued progressive development of the Turkmenistan–ECO partnership.
