Meeting Between the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and the Russian Federation Held in Ashgabat

On June 25, 2025, a meeting took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, Mr. Rashid Meredov, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Mr. Sergey Lavrov, who arrived in Ashgabat on an official visit.

During the meeting, which was attended by representatives of the foreign ministries of both countries, the parties discussed key aspects of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the Russian Federation in the political-diplomatic, trade-economic, and cultural-humanitarian spheres.

The ministers underscored the importance of maintaining a regular and trust-based dialogue between the leaderships of Turkmenistan and Russia, which contributes to the further advancement of bilateral relations.

The head of the Russian foreign ministry emphasized that a constructive dialogue at the highest state level is a crucial factor in the deepening of the strategic partnership between Turkmenistan and Russia.

In this context, Minister Lavrov highlighted the visit of the President of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedov, to Moscow to participate in the celebrations marking the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War.

The importance of the visit by the National Leader of the Turkmen People and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, Mr. Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, to the Russian Federation for participation in the 16th International Economic Forum "Russia – Islamic World: KazanForum 2025" was also emphasized.

The meeting continued with discussions on the agenda for the upcoming consultations between the foreign ministries of the two countries.

An exchange of views was held on regional and international issues. The productive nature of the Turkmen-Russian partnership in multilateral formats was noted, including cooperation within the UN, CIS, the Caspian “Five,” and the “Central Asia – Russia” platform.

The meeting also featured in-depth discussions on matters related to trade-economic and cultural-humanitarian cooperation between the two countries.

Following the conclusion of the talks, a signing ceremony was held for the Program of Cooperation between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation for 2025–2026.
