Political Consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan

On August 25, 2025, political consultations were held between the foreign ministries of Turkmenistan and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.

The Turkmen side was headed by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Mr. Ahmet Gurbanov, while the Pakistani side was led by the Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan for West Asia and Afghanistan, Mr. Syed Ali Asad Gillani.

Within the framework of the meeting’s agenda, the parties discussed the current state and prospects for further development of bilateral cooperation in the political-diplomatic, trade-economic, and cultural-humanitarian spheres.

The diplomats reaffirmed that regular dialogue at the highest political level is a key factor in the advancement of interstate relations.

Both sides expressed interest in strengthening inter-parliamentary ties, as well as in developing partnership within international and regional structures.

The parties emphasized the importance of the activities of the Joint Turkmen-Pakistani Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation and expressed interest in holding its next meeting in the near future. In order to expand trade and economic cooperation, the diplomats supported the establishment of direct contacts between representatives of the private sectors of the two countries.

In addition, ways to improve the legal and contractual framework of cooperation and issues related to the promotion of joint projects in the fields of energy and transport were reviewed. In this context, the diplomats discussed the implementation of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) transnational gas pipeline project.

During the consultations, the parties also addressed cultural and humanitarian cooperation and upcoming events scheduled to be held later this year
