A NEW INSTITUTE OF STATE, LAW AND DEMOCRACY WAS ESTABLISHED IN TURKMENISTAN

On July 23, 2018, a meeting was held in Ashgabat in the course of which the participants discussed the actual tasks of the new Institute of the State, Law and Democracy of Turkmenistan, formed in accordance with the Decree of the Head of State on the basis of the merger of the Turkmen National Institute of Democracy and Human Rights under the President of Turkmenistan and the Institute of State and Law under the President Turkmenistan.

As the speakers emphasized, in recent years, at the initiative of the head of state, progressive reforms have been implemented in the country aimed at further strengthening the legal foundations of Turkmen society, enriching the primordial democratic traditions of our people, securing the rights and legitimate interests of every citizen. In this context, special emphasis was placed on the importance of the new version of the Constitution of Turkmenistan, which is the guarantor of the supremacy of the Law, the rights and freedoms of the people of Turkmenistan, the inviolability of the principles of genuine democracy, and the progress in the country.

Speakers noted the urgency of the decision taken by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to establish a new Institute. The team of the Institute is responsible for conducting a comprehensive research work, preparing analytical and information surveys, studying advanced law enforcement practices, democratizing the society and improving legislation, and implementing national programs and plans in the human rights aspect.

The multifaceted activity of the new scientific establishment will also be aimed at preparing proposals for the implementation of the generally accepted legal norms in the country's legislative base. In this context, the priority directions of the work of the Interdepartmental Commission on Ensuring the Implementation of Turkmenistan's International Obligations in the Field of Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law were discussed.
