The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan met with the EU Special Representative for Central Asia
On January 21, 2026, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, Rashid Meredov met with the EU Special Representative for Central Asia Eduards Stiprais, who arrived in Ashgabat to participate in events as part of the United Nations Special Programme for the Economies of Central Asia (SPECA) Week.
During the meeting, the sides discussed the current state and prospects for developing cooperation between Turkmenistan and the European Union in areas of mutual interest.
They expressed interest in expanding the political-diplomatic dialogue and the legal framework of cooperation. In this context, the parties discussed the possibilities of organizing high-level meetings and visits during the current year.
The diplomats discussed trade and economic cooperation between Turkmenistan and the EU, particularly in the energy and transport sectors.
In addition, they discussed current and planned projects and programs at the regional level, involving Central Asian countries.
The parties exchanged views on the development of cultural and humanitarian cooperation between Turkmenistan and the EU. Particular attention was paid to strengthening cooperation in the fields of professional education and science.
