Turkmenistan is once again becoming a center of major international events that carry deep meaning and regional and global significance.

On October 9, 2026, the First Caspian Environmental Summit took place in the Avaza National Tourist Zone.

The session was chaired by the President of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedov. It was attended by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Masoud Pezeshkian, the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, and the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin.

The summit became an initiative platform for resolving pressing environmental issues in line with today’s realities.

At the end of the session, the Decision of the Heads of the Caspian Littoral States on the Outcomes of the Caspian Environmental Summit was adopted.

In this regard, it is important to note that Turkmenistan stands for developing constructive cooperation with all interested partners, above all within the framework of the United Nations, aimed at ensuring sustainable development and protection of the Caspian marine environment.

On the sidelines of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly in 2023, Turkmenistan presented the draft Caspian Environmental Initiative, aimed at consolidating efforts to protect the marine environment. To implement this initiative, active work is under way both at the national level and in cooperation with partner countries and international organizations.

In this context, it should be stressed that, guided by its policy of positive neutrality, Turkmenistan consistently makes every effort to turn the Caspian into a sea of peace, trust and friendship. The country works diligently to strengthen close contacts between the Caspian states in energy, transport and logistics, industry and trade.

Thus, based on the constructive initiatives of Hero-Arkadag and under the wise leadership of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, Turkmenistan regularly puts forward constructive initiatives to expand trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian ties in the Caspian region, which receive wide support among the coastal states.

Turkmenistan was also the initiator of the first summit of the heads of the Caspian states. The forum was held in Ashgabat in 2002 and became the starting point for defining priority directions of cooperation for the near and long term.

From that time, the interstate negotiation mechanism moved to a qualitatively new level. The first Caspian summit put forward ideas that became the basis for documents adopted at subsequent summits.

Turkmenistan also initiated the first Caspian Economic Forum. The forum was held successfully on August 12, 2019, in the Avaza National Tourist Zone. The event focused on expanding trade and economic ties between the coastal states. It helped identify new areas of economic partnership of mutual interest between the countries of the region.

Turkmenistan continues to promote fundamentally new and effective trends in regional and world politics, and supports the creation of mechanisms that stimulate effective negotiation processes leading to projects with concrete results.
