Ambassador of Turkmenistan Participates in Ambassadors Roundtable at the 21st Jeju Forum
On 24 June 2026, Ambassador of Turkmenistan to the Republic of Korea H.E. Mr. Begench Durdyyev participated in the Ambassadors' Roundtable session titled “Expanding Multi-Layered Cooperation between Korea and Central Asia: Energy, Industry, and Cultural Exchange,” held as part of the 21st Jeju Forum for Peace and Prosperity on Jeju Island, Republic of Korea.
The event was organized ahead of the first Central Asia - Republic of Korea Summit, scheduled to take place in Seoul in September 2026, with the aim of exchanging views on priority areas of bilateral and regional cooperation. It brought together representatives of the Government of the Republic of Korea, ambassadors and diplomats accredited in the country, academics, and members of the media.
In his address, Ambassador B. Durdyyev spoke about the achievements of our motherland since gaining its Independence and current priorities. In particular, he noted that Turkmenistan is this year widely marking the 35th anniversary of Independence, and drew the audience's attention to the significance of 2026 as a year rich in landmark events, held under the national motto “Independent, permanently Neutral Turkmenistan - the homeland of purposeful winged horses”.
Speaking about bilateral relations, the Ambassador gave insights on the development of a broad and dynamic partnership between our countries, marked by regular high-level exchanges and a solid foundation of signed agreements across political, economic, scientific, and cultural areas. He highlighted the particular significance of the telephone conversation held in August 2025 between the President of Turkmenistan H.E. Mr. Serdar Berdimuhamedov and the President of ROK H.E. Mr. Lee Jae Myung, for deepening bilateral cooperation.
On Turkmen-Korean cooperation in trade and the economy, the Ambassador provided information on projects implemented in oil-gas and chemical sectors of Turkmenistan with the participation of Korean companies. It was also highlighted the ongoing projects of Daewoo Engineering & Construction in the chemical sector and Korea Meditech Co., Ltd. in healthcare as concrete examples of continuing cooperation between the two countries. He also noted the recent launch of the jointly built cargo vessel Gadamly on the Caspian Sea as a symbol of expanding industrial cooperation.
The Ambassador further noted that the growing interest in learning the Korean language and in the martial art of taekwondo in Turkmenistan is enriching relations between the two countries.
Concluding his remarks, the Ambassador emphasized the particular importance Turkmenistan attaches to the first Central Asia - Republic of Korea Summit and expressed confidence that it will bring concrete results. He called on the Korean side to cooperate actively in preparing for the Summit and for the forthcoming visit of the President of Turkmenistan.
