The 29th meeting of the ECO Council of Foreign Ministers was held
On November 28, 2025, the 29th meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) was held via videoconference, in which a delegation from Turkmenistan headed by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Ahmet Gurbanov took part.
The meeting, chaired by the Republic of Kazakhstan, focused on key issues related to the further development of multilateral cooperation between ECO member states.
During the event, a wide range of issues related to the further development of interaction between member states, the improvement of regional cooperation mechanisms, and the enhancement of the Organization's effectiveness were discussed. Particular attention was paid to the Secretary-General's report, the outcomes of relevant ministerial meetings, and meetings of specialized ECO institutions.
The meeting agenda also included a discussion of the draft "Strategic Goals for Economic Cooperation – 2035." The Turkmen side expressed support for further revision of the document, taking into account the feasibility of its approaches, project-based focus, and practical implementation mechanisms. In this regard, the extension of the ECO Vision 2025 concept for a transitional period was supported.
In his speech, A.Gurbanov emphasized the priority of developing transport and logistics connectivity, digitalizing transit, and strengthening regional infrastructure links. The significance of Turkmenistan's initiative to proclaim the UN Decade of Sustainable Transport (2026–2035) for coordinating joint projects among member states and expanding international cooperation was noted.
The issues of environmental sustainability and green transformation were discussed. The Turkmen side emphasized regional environmental initiatives, including the establishment of the Regional Center to Combat Desertification and the Climate Technology Center under the auspices of the UN. The need for active engagement with international financial institutions and UN agencies was also emphasized.
Special attention was paid to developing trade and economic cooperation, promoting the private sector, implementing digital trade tools, and strengthening humanitarian cooperation.
Following the meeting, organizational and financial issues related to the ECO's activities were discussed, and further steps to develop joint initiatives within the Organization were agreed upon. The next meeting of the ECO Council of Foreign Ministers is planned for 2026.
