Ambassador of Turkmenistan met with the leadership of the Korea International Trade Association

On June 17, 2026, the Ambassador of Turkmenistan to the Republic of Korea Begench Durdyyev, met with the Vice President of the Korea International Trade Association, Lee Sang-jun, at the Association’s headquarters.

The sides discussed matters related to the organization of economic events to be held on the sidelines of the forthcoming First Central Asia–Republic of Korea Summit in September 2026 in Seoul.

Ambassador Durdyyev emphasized the special importance attached by Turkmenistan to the development of bilateral relations and mutually beneficial trade and economic cooperation with the Republic of Korea and expressed hope for KITA’s active engagement and cooperation in the preparation of the planned events.

For his part, Mr. Lee emphasized the significance attached by the Republic of Korea to cooperation with the countries of Central Asia, including Turkmenistan. He noted that Turkmenistan is regarded as an important partner, possessing substantial natural resources and considerable economic potential. He highlighted broad opportunities for cooperation in energy, petrochemicals, transportation, infrastructure modernization, smart cities and urban development, emphasizing the complementarity of the two countries’ economic and technological capabilities.

The meeting confirmed the mutual interest of the parties in further strengthening bilateral cooperation, including through continued coordination on the preparation and successful conduct of forthcoming events within the framework of the First Central Asia–Republic of Korea Summit.
