The meeting with the IOM Regional Coordinator for Central Asia was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan
On December 10, 2024, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan hosted a meeting between Deputy Minister Myahri Byashimova and the newly appointed Regional Coordinator for Central Asia of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), Head of IOM in Kazakhstan Serhan Aktoprak.
The Turkmen side congratulated the guest on his appointment to the new position and expressed hope for the continuation of a fruitful partnership.
During the meeting, an interested exchange of views took place on current issues of interaction between Turkmenistan and IOM, and joint tasks for the future were outlined.
The parties emphasized that issues of ensuring the rights of refugees and stateless persons, combating human trafficking are considered by Turkmenistan as priority areas of partnership with authoritative international organizations.
In this context, thanks to systematic and planned work, Turkmenistan has now demonstrated international leadership by becoming the first state party to the Statelessness Conventions to resolve all known cases of statelessness, as well as the first country in Central Asia to join the Global Alliance to End Statelessness.
The interlocutors noted with satisfaction the successful implementation of the "Plan of projects planned for implementation by the Government of Turkmenistan jointly with the Representative Office of the International Organization for Migration in Turkmenistan in 2024", and outlined areas of cooperation for 2025.
At the end of the meeting, the interlocutors expressed mutual interest in further enhancing cooperation.
