The President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov visited the Balkan province today to officially commission the dry cargo vessel Gadamly - Turkmenistan’s ship built at home, at the Balkan Shipbuilding and Ship Repair Yard in Turkmenbashi.
This is more than a ship launch. It is the result of a real partnership between Turkmen and Korean specialists. The project was carried out by the Balkan yard in cooperation with the Koryo Shipbuilding Industry Technology Co., Ltd. (KSIT) from the Republic of Korea.
Gadamly has a deadweight of 6,100 tons and can carry 240 twenty-ton containers. It meets full international maritime standards and was certified by Bureau Veritas Marine and Offshore (France). Korean engineers transferred technology, trained local staff, and worked side by side with Turkmen shipbuilders throughout the construction process.
At the ceremony, Choi Yong Wook, President of Koryo Shipbuilding Industry Technology, presented special international certificates to the Balkan yard for engineering excellence and high-quality workmanship. He called the event a clear sign that Turkmenistan has entered a new stage of development in transport and logistics.
A second vessel - Menzil - is already under construction and is expected to be commissioned later this year, also in cooperation with the Korean side.
The Gadamly will operate across the Caspian Sea, connecting Turkmenistan with neighboring states and strengthening the country’s role as a key transit corridor on the East-West and North-South routes.
