The President of Turkmenistan received the head of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development

On July 28, 2026, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov received Ms. Odile Renaud-Basso, the head of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), who was visiting our country.

Expressing gratitude for the time spent with her, the guest emphasized that under the leadership of the head of state, Turkmenistan has demonstrated rapid development. The EBRD head also noted that she was deeply impressed by the magnificent architecture of Ashgabat.

Praising the large-scale reforms being implemented in Turkmenistan aimed at diversifying the national economy, Ms. Odile Renaud-Basso confirmed the EBRD's continued interest in expanding cooperation with our country.

Warmly welcoming the head of a major international financial institution, the President expressed confidence that the meetings planned during her visit would give impetus to the further development of the bilateral partnership. As noted during the meeting, Turkmenistan constructively cooperates with reputable international organizations, particularly financial and banking institutions, in the context of its foreign policy activities.

The sociо-economic development strategy being implemented in our country is aimed at improving the standard of living of the people. Its priority goals are not limited to addressing current challenges but also focus on ensuring long-term sustainable development.

As President Serdar Berdimuhamedov emphasized, to achieve these goals, Turkmenistan is undertaking the necessary work to produce export-oriented and import-substituting products and support entrepreneurship. Appropriate measures are also being implemented to diversify and modernize the economy and attract investment in key sectors.

Noting that Turkmenistan has been a long-standing member of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, with which it has established effective cooperation in trade, economic, financial, and banking spheres, the head of state identified energy, transport, the digital economy, and environmental protection as the main areas of bilateral cooperation.

Focusing on the transport and logistics sector, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov noted that our country's favorable geographic location serves as a reliable platform for developing interconnectivity between various modes of transport. Speaking about this, the head of Turkmenistan emphasized the important work being carried out to create multimodal international transport corridors North-South and East-West.

It was also noted that Turkmenistan attaches great importance to expanding cooperation in the energy sector through diversification. Comprehensive efforts are being undertaken to develop clean, green, and environmentally friendly energy.

In this regard, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov noted the ample opportunities for the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development to participate in projects and new initiatives being implemented in our country.

Emphasizing that the development of the domestic agricultural sector and the rational use of water resources are also currently important tasks, the head of state confirmed Turkmenistan's readiness to advance cooperation with the EBRD in this area.

Noting that during Ms. Odile Renaud-Basso's visit to Ashgabat, talks will be held on banking, finance, energy, environmental protection, rational use of water resources, and Turkmenistan's transport and logistics system, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov expressed confidence that these talks will give impetus to the partnership between our country and the EBRD and take it to a qualitatively new level.

In this context, the head of state emphasized Turkmenistan's readiness to further expand mutually beneficial cooperation with this major international financial institution.

At the end of the meeting, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Ms. Odile Renaud-Basso, President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, expressed confidence in the successful continuation of bilateral cooperation and exchanged best wishes.
