On October 7, 2026, the 95th meeting of the Interstate Commission for Water Coordination (ICWC) of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Republic of Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and the Republic of Uzbekistan took place in Avaza. The meeting was organized by the Turkmen side and chaired by D.M. Gendjiev, Chairman of the State Committee for Water Management of Turkmenistan.

ICWC members participating in the meeting included N.M. Nurzhigitov, Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, and Sh.R. Khamraev, Minister of Water Management of Uzbekistan. D.A. Abdurazokzoda participated on behalf of Tajikistan.

Also in attendance were representatives from the water management agencies of Central Asian countries, ICWC executive bodies—the Secretariat, BVO "Amudarya," BVO "Syrdarya," and the ICWC Scientific-Information Center—as well as the Executive Committee of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea (IFAS).

Participants reviewed the results of water withdrawal limit utilization and reservoir operating regimes during the 2026 growing season for the Syrdarya and Amudarya basins; they also coordinated water distribution issues and projected operating regimes for reservoir cascades for the 2026–2027 non-growing season. Discussions also covered the implementation of tasks stemming from decisions made at summits of the IFAS founding heads of state, including the implementation of ASBP-4, the adoption of water-saving and digital technologies, climate change adaptation, and the development of water diplomacy and scientific capacity.

A protocol was adopted at the conclusion of the meeting.
