Meeting of the minister of foreign affairs of Turkmenistan with the president of the Federal Council of the Parliament of Austria

On 3 November 2026, the minister of foreign affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov met at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan with the president of the Federal Council of the Parliament of the Republic of Austria Christine Schwarz-Fuchs, who arrived in Ashgabat at the head of a representative delegation.

During the meeting, the sides noted the high pace of development of interstate relations in the political and diplomatic, trade and economic, social, and cultural and humanitarian spheres.

It was particularly stressed that the main factor in the development of Turkmen-Austrian relations is contacts at the highest state level. In this context, the importance of the meetings of the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, as well as of the president of Turkmenistan, with the federal president of the Republic of Austria was noted.

The sides noted the effectiveness of cooperation between the two countries within international structures, in particular the UN and the OSCE. The intention was expressed to continue the positive practice of partnership for the sake of peace, stability and sustainable development in line with the policy of neutrality followed by both states.

At the meeting, opportunities for deepening interparliamentary ties and expanding partnership between the foreign policy agencies of the two countries were considered.

Trade and economic ties were a separate topic of discussion. During the current visit, the president of the Federal Council of the Parliament of the Republic of Austria Christine Schwarz-Fuchs is accompanied by an extensive business delegation - heads and representatives of more than 30 Austrian companies.

In addition, there was an exchange of views on the development of cultural and humanitarian cooperation between Turkmenistan and the Republic of Austria.

At the end of the meeting, the sides confirmed their mutual interest in further strengthening Turkmen-Austrian relations, stressing the important role of interparliamentary dialogue in expanding bilateral cooperation.
